With Mother’s Day around the corner, it’s time to come up with some creative gifts and activities to celebrate this day in a unique way!
Thumbprint Note Cards
Trim a piece of paper to 5 inches by 4 inches. Fold in half. Have children place thumb or finger in a stamp pad and make 5 or 6 thumb or fingerprints on front of card. Draw stems and leaves with a green crayon or marker. Extension: Make 5 or 6 cards, tie together with a ribbon, and give as Mother’s Day present.
Decorative Soap
Cut a piece of designer felt, decorative paper, or fabric to fit around a scented bar of soap. Wrap the fabric around the soap and adhere. Let dry. Decorate the top and sides of the bar of soap with small silk flowers, ribbon, lace, sequins, beads, etc.
Create Jewelry
Ingredients: Stir together one cup flour, one cup warm water, one quarter cup salt, 2 teaspoons cream of tartar, one teaspoon oil, and a few drops of desired food coloring. Treat as play-doh and roll out. Create various shapes (hearts, etc). Poke a hole at the top of the shape big enough to thread yarn or ribbon through. Allow to dry. Once dried, you can paint or glitter your pendant and gift wrap for your special mom!
Mother’s Day Tea Party
If you’re tired of the usual “going to dinner” every Mother’s Day, throw a tea party! This is also a great way to save money as teas, cookies and cakes are very inexpensive! Get out your fine china or even dine on your child’s play tea set. Great family fun for everybody!
